Casper 4K: Funny Ghost Pranks Derailed Breakfast Scene | Extended Preview
The 1995 live-action fantasy film Casper, directed by Brad Silberling and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, brought the classic Friendly Ghost character to life using groundbreaking CGI. The story centers on Dr. James Harvey (Bill Pullman), a widowed "ghost therapist" obsessed with contacting his late wife, and his lonely teenage daughter, Kat (Christina Ricci), who move into the dilapidated Whipstaff Manor in Maine. They were hired by the manor's greedy new owner, Carrigan Crittenden (Cathy Moriarty), and her lawyer Dibs (Eric Idle), who are searching for a rumored treasure hidden within the haunted estate. They quickly discover the manor is home to four ghosts: the mischievous, obnoxious Ghostly Trio (Stretch, Stinkie, and Fatso), and their kind, solitary nephew, Casper (voiced by Malachi Pearson, human form played by Devon Sawa). While the Trio relentlessly tries to scare the "fleshies" away, Casper develops a strong, tender friendship and crush on Kat, who helps him remember the tragic details of his former life as a young boy who died of pneumonia. The film culminates in a frantic search for a resurrection machine, known as the Lazarus, and a heartfelt climax where Dr. Harvey also briefly becomes a ghost, allowing Casper to briefly be brought back to life to share one dance with Kat, before returning to his ghostly state as a friendly spirit who finally has the friend he always longed for.
