The Wolfman (2010): Extended Preview | Witness the Terror Unleashed

The Wolfman (2010) is a gothic horror film directed by Joe Johnston, serving as a remake of the classic 1941 Universal monster movie. Set in Victorian England around 1891, the story centers on Lawrence Talbot (Benicio Del Toro), a successful but troubled Shakespearean stage actor who returns from America to his ancestral home, Talbot Hall, after receiving a plea from his brother Ben's fiancée, Gwen Conliffe (Emily Blunt). Lawrence has been long estranged from his cold, mysterious father, Sir John Talbot (Anthony Hopkins), and carries the trauma of his mother's death. Upon his return, he learns his brother has been brutally murdered by what the locals believe is a savage beast roaming the Blackmoor woods. Investigating the crime, Lawrence is attacked and bitten by the creature during a rampage on a Gypsy camp. Though he heals miraculously fast, an old Gypsy woman warns him that he is now cursed to become a werewolf under the full moon. As a string of gruesome killings ensues, Lawrence is eventually captured by the determined Scotland Yard Inspector Francis Abberline (Hugo Weaving) and committed to a London asylum. The film culminates in Lawrence's violent escape from the asylum during a full moon transformation, his final realization of the werewolf's true identity, and a climactic werewolf-on-werewolf battle against his father at Talbot Hall, with Gwen ultimately being forced to use a silver bullet to end Lawrence's suffering. The movie is known for its lavish Gothic atmosphere, R-rated gore, and acclaimed makeup effects by Rick Baker and Dave Elsey, which won an Academy Award.
