Clown in a Cornfield 2025
Directed by Eli Craig and based on the Bram Stoker Award-winning novel by Adam Cesare, Clown in a Cornfield (2025) follows Quinn Maybrook, who moves with her father to the fading town of Kettle Springs seeking a fresh start. The town is deeply fractured following the closure of its corn syrup factory, creating a bitter divide between the traditionalist older generation and the progressive youth. This tension turns deadly during a massive party in the cornfields when Frendo the Clown—the town’s former mascot—re-emerges as a masked killer. Quinn and a small group of teenagers must fight for their lives as they discover that the "cleansing" of the town is part of a much larger, more coordinated conspiracy by the town’s elders to "fix" their community by eliminating its troublesome youth. The film features a cast led by Katie Douglas (known for Ginny & Georgia) as the resourceful Quinn Maybrook. She is joined by Aaron Abrams as her father, Dr. Glenn Maybrook, and Carson MacCormac as Cole Hill, the son of the town’s influential mayor. The supporting cast includes Kevin Durand as Mayor Arthur Hill, Will Sasso as Sheriff Dunne, and Vincent Muller as Rust. Other notable cast members portraying the town's youth and residents include Verity Marks, Cassandra Potenza, Ayo Solanke, and Alexandre Martin Deakin. In terms of box office performance, the film was a significant success for its independent distributors, scoring the biggest opening weekend in IFC Films history with a North American debut of approximately $3.6 million. Produced on a modest budget of less than $1 million, it eventually grossed over $7.2 million domestically and nearly $6.6 million internationally, bringing its total worldwide box office haul to approximately $13.8 million. The film's financial success was bolstered by a "Certified Fresh" critical reception following its premiere at South by Southwest (SXSW) in March 2025.For worldwide streaming, the film is primarily available through Shudder and AMC+, as it was co-distributed by RLJE Films and Shudder. In the United States and Canada, it transitioned to these streaming platforms following its theatrical window in mid-2025. Internationally, streaming rights vary by region: it is available on Shudder in the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, while in other territories like Germany and France, digital availability is managed through local partners such as Constantin Film and SND.

Sometimes, you just want a good, straightforward slasher, and that's exactly what Clown in a Cornfield delivers. It's gory, tense, and doesn't mess around. The setup is classic: Quinn moves to a small town, only to discover that it's hiding a deadly secret. Enter the killer clown, and suddenly the cornfields aren't just a creepy backdrop-they're a trap. The film knows what it is and doesn't pretend otherwise. It's violent, fun, and self-aware, with some creative kills and just enough backstory to make you care about who lives and who doesn't. Sure, it leans into some slasher clichés, and there were a few "Why would you do that?!" moments, but honestly, that's half the fun of watching a movie like this. It's not breaking new ground, but it doesn't need to. It's the kind of movie you watch for the tension, the chase scenes, and the brutal confrontations. If you're a fan of classic slashers with a bit of modern flair, you'll have a blast.
