Drop 2025
Drop is a 2025 American thriller film directed by Christopher Landon, known for his work on "Happy Death Day" and "Freaky." The screenplay is by Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach. The movie premiered at SXSW on March 9, 2025, and was released theatrically in the United States on April 11, 2025, by Universal Pictures. The film stars Meghann Fahy as Violet, a widowed mother venturing back into the dating scene. Her first date in years with the charming Henry, played by Brandon Sklenar, takes a sinister turn when she starts receiving anonymous and threatening messages on her phone. These messages, delivered through an app called DigiDrop which can only be sent from someone within a 50-foot radius, make her suspect everyone around her, including her date, and fear for the safety of her young son, Toby. The cast also includes Violett Beane as Jen, Violet's sister and Toby's babysitter, and Jacob Robinson as Toby. Reed Diamond, Gabrielle Ryan, Jeffery Self, Ed Weeks, and Travis Nelson appear as various individuals Violet encounters at the upscale restaurant where the date takes place. "Drop" is produced by Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller, Cameron Fuller, and Sam Lerner. The film has a runtime of 95 minutes and is rated PG-13 for strong violent content, suicide, some strong language, and sexual references. The plot unfolds almost entirely within the confines of the restaurant, creating a claustrophobic and suspenseful atmosphere as Violet tries to decipher who is behind the menacing messages and protect her loved ones. The film explores themes of trust, paranoia in the digital age, and, as some reviews suggest, can be interpreted as a metaphor for overcoming past trauma, particularly spousal abuse which Violet has experienced.
