In the Lost Lands 2025

The story of In the Lost Lands is set in a bleak, post-apocalyptic future where the remnants of humanity live in a dark city sheltered under a mountain. The narrative begins with Gray Alys (Milla Jovovich), a powerful and feared sorceress, escaping a public execution at the hands of The Enforcer (Arly Jover) and a group of religious zealots from the Church. Alys is soon hired by the power-hungry Queen Melange (Amara Okereke), who desires the magical ability to shapeshift into a werewolf so she can be with her secret lover. To complete this dangerous quest, Alys enlists the help of a rugged, mysterious guide and hunter named Boyce (Dave Bautista). As the duo travels through the ghostly, desolate wilderness known as the "Lost Lands," they are relentlessly pursued by The Enforcer’s forces and forced to battle skeletal demons and nuclear zombies. Along the way, complex betrayals emerge: the Queen’s captain, Jerais, secretly asks Alys to fail the mission for the Queen’s own protection, while the Queen herself murders the bedridden Overlord to consolidate power after discovering she is pregnant. The film reaches its climax at Skull River, where it is revealed that Boyce is actually the shapeshifter they were hunting. In a tragic confrontation under the full moon, Alys uses silver claws to kill Boyce in his wolf form to satisfy the Queen’s contract. However, the Queen is devastated to learn that the beast she wanted to emulate was her lover, leading to her downfall as the city's starving population revolts. The film concludes with a supernatural twist as Boyce is resurrected from his grave, vowing to hunt down the sorceress who took his life. The film marks another collaboration between director Paul W.S. Anderson and his longtime lead, Milla Jovovich, who portrays the cynical witch Gray Alys. Dave Bautista co-stars as the drifter Boyce, a character who serves as the emotional anchor of the story and holds the film’s biggest secret. The supporting cast includes Amara Okereke as the ambitious Queen Melange and Arly Jover as the fanatical antagonist known as The Enforcer. Other key roles are filled by Fraser James, who plays the scheming religious leader The Patriarch, and Simon Loof as the Queen's conflicted captain, Jerais. The screenplay was written by Anderson and Constantin Werner, based on the original 1982 short story by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin. Despite the high-profile source material and star power, In the Lost Lands faced a difficult theatrical run. Produced on a budget of roughly $55 million, the film struggled to find a large audience, opening to only $1.07 million in the United States. By the end of its theatrical cycle in 2025, it had grossed approximately $1.87 million domestically and $4.4 million internationally, resulting in a worldwide total of roughly $6.3 million. Critics were largely divided, with many praising the unique visual flair and campy action sequences but criticizing the thin screenplay and heavy reliance on CGI, which led to its "rotten" status on several review aggregation sites.Following its limited theatrical release, the film moved quickly to home media and digital platforms to recoup its production costs. It became available for purchase and rental on VOD services such as Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, and Fandango at Home on April 8, 2025. For subscription-based streaming, the film found unexpected success on Hulu in the United States, where it reached the top of the charts shortly after its debut. In international markets, including India and parts of Europe, the film is primarily available to stream via Lionsgate Play.

I knew going into this it was going to be bad. I love this type of theme but they always seem to screw it up with bad writing. Id love to finally see a good movie with this type of setting. I will say part of it I was entertained. Action, relationships, some twists and turns. When we left the theater, multiple people mentioned it didn't make sense. While it did to me, I get that viewpoint. Because it was weak when they were trying to be creative. It's a sleeper, and i don't suggest people use their hard earned money to see this. While it was beautiful and you could see they put in a lot of work, it just came out super flat with the story.
