Born on January 25, 1989, in Pereslavl-Zalessky, he initially pursued a career in football before an injury led him to pivot to acting. He graduated from the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) and quickly rose to prominence. Petrov is known for his roles in a wide variety of genres, from fantasy and action to drama and comedy.His breakthrough came with the films Attraction (2017) and Gogol. The Beginning (2017), which established him as a major star in Russian cinema. He has also gained international recognition with roles in films like Luc Besson's Anna (2019) and Roman Polanski's The Palace (2023). Some of his most celebrated performances include the lead role in the war film T-34 (2019) and the acclaimed drama Text (2019), for which he won a Golden Eagle Award. In the 2024 film Guest from the Future, he played the role of the eccentric space pirate, Jolly Man U. Petrov is also a notable stage actor and has received numerous awards for his work.
