Ken Kao

Ken Kao is an American film producer and media entrepreneur, widely recognized for his work in independent cinema. He is the co-founder and president of Waypoint Entertainment, a film financing and production company that has been behind a number of acclaimed projects. A key collaborator of director Terrence Malick, Kao has produced films such as Knight of Cups and Song to Song. He also has a long-standing partnership with actor and filmmaker Ryan Gosling, with whom he co-founded the production company Arcana.Kao's impressive filmography includes a diverse range of genres and styles. He has produced films like the action-comedy The Nice Guys, the Western Hostiles, Jonah Hill's directorial debut Mid90s, and the Oscar-winning period drama The Favourite. In addition to his work with established directors, he is known for supporting unique, fresh voices in filmmaking. He has also been credited as a producer or executive producer on a number of upcoming films, including She Rides Shotgun (2025) and Project Hail Mary (2026). Prior to his career in film, Kao was a lawyer. He is the son of Min Kao, the co-founder of the GPS company Garmin.
