He began his career in the early 1990s, with early roles in projects like "Ghoulies 3: Ghoulies Go to College" (1991) and the Nickelodeon show "SK8-TV."Lillard quickly gained recognition for his energetic and often eccentric performances, particularly in cult films and horror genres. Some of his most notable early roles include Chip Sutphin in John Waters' "Serial Mom" (1994), Emmanuel "Cereal Killer" Goldstein in "Hackers" (1995), and especially Stu Macher in Wes Craven's iconic horror film "Scream" (1996), a role that solidified his status as a "scream king." He also received critical acclaim for his lead role as Stevo in the independent film "SLC Punk!"
