Blood Star 2024

Blood Star is a 2024 survival thriller directed by Lawrence Jacomelli in his feature debut. The plot centers on Bobbi (Britni Camacho), a petty thief driving a vintage Mustang across the New Mexico desert to escape a troubled past. Her journey turns into a nightmare when she is pulled over by Sheriff Bilstein (John Schwab), a psychopathic lawman who uses his badge to target and terrorize vulnerable women. After he shoots her off the road, the film becomes a tense game of cat-and-mouse as Bobbi must rely on her street smarts to survive the desert heat and the sheriff's relentless pursuit, eventually uncovering a darker family secret involving the sheriff's brother, Ed. The film features a small but effective cast, led by Britni Camacho as the resilient Bobbi and John Schwab as the menacing Sheriff Bilstein. Supporting roles include Sydney Brumfield as Amy, a waitress who briefly aids Bobbi, and Travis Lincoln Cox as Ed. The film was produced on a micro-budget and shot in just 10 days, a fact that has influenced both its raw aesthetic and its critical reception. Critically, the film has received mixed reviews. Critics have praised the lead performances and the cinematography, noting that it punches above its weight class visually given its limited resources. However, it has been criticized for a somewhat clichéd script and a dip in tension during the second half. It holds a reputation as a "solid if unremarkable" genre entry that pays homage to 70s exploitation films like Duel or The Hills Have Eyes. Regarding box office and streaming, Blood Star is primarily a digital release rather than a theatrical blockbuster. While it premiered in the UK in October 2024, it made its US debut just recently (relative to your current date) on November 25, 2025, distributed by Quiver Distribution. Because of this limited release strategy, traditional box office numbers are negligible. It is currently available to rent or purchase on major digital platforms (VOD) such as Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Fandango at Home.
