Boneyard 2024

Boneyard is a chilling 2024 American crime thriller inspired by the real-life West Mesa Murders in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The plot follows a multi-agency investigation launched after the skeletal remains of eleven women and girls (plus one unborn child) are discovered buried in the New Mexico desert. The core of the story revolves around the clashing agendas and methods of three main figures: the determined Detective Ortega (Brian Van Holt), the local Police Chief Carter (Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson), and the seasoned but troubled FBI Agent Petrovick (Mel Gibson), as they race to identify and apprehend the serial killer, nicknamed 'The Bone Collector.' The investigation, which is deeply personal for Detective Ortega, casts suspicion in all directions, including within the police department itself, particularly on a corrupt officer named Tate, while another suspect, Caesar Manto (Weston Cage), is also brought into custody as the police and FBI try to unmask the true monster behind the heinous crimes. The main cast features Mel Gibson as Agent Petrovick, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson as Chief Carter, and Brian Van Holt as Detective Ortega, with supporting roles including Nora Zehetner as Detective Young and Gabrielle Haugh as Selena. Through the eyes of ten-year-old Alexander, we witness the delights and conflicts of the Ekdahl family, a sprawling bourgeois clan in turn-of-the-twentieth-century Sweden. Ingmar Bergman intended Fanny and Alexander as his swan song, and it is the legendary director’s warmest and most autobiographical film, a four-time Academy Award–winning triumph that combines his trademark melancholy and emotional intensity with immense joy and sensuality. Two yuppies drop out of the rat race and take to the road in a motor-home to do all the things they dreamed about in their youth. Albert Brooks ("Broadcast News," "Defending Your Life") directs and stars in this smart, satirical romantic comedy. When a yuppie ad executive suddenly finds himself unemployed, he and his wife (Julie Hagerty, "Airplane!," "A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy") begin a comic odyssey on the open road to get away from the rat race -- only to become "lost in America." The Wall Street Journal calls this "hilarious... Brooks is one of the funniest men in America," while the Chicago Tribune says the film contains "one priceless scene after another, all of which are wildly funny," and the Chicago Sun-Times gives the film its highest rating -- "****". Multiple Maniacs (The Criterion Collection) Blu-ray

John Waters’ gloriously grotesque second feature is replete with all manner of depravity, from robbery to murder to one of cinema’s most memorably blasphemous moments. Made on a shoestring budget in Waters’ native Baltimore, with the filmmaker taking on nearly every technical task, this gleeful mockery of the peace-and-love ethos of its era features the Cavalcade of Perversion, a traveling show mounted by a troupe of misfits whose shocking proclivities are topped only by those of their leader: the glammer-than-glam, larger-than-life Divine, out for blood after discovering her lover’s affair. Starring members of Waters’ beloved regular cast, the Dreamlanders (including David Lochary, Mary Vivian Pearce, Mink Stole, Susan Lowe, Edith Massey, George Figgs, and Cookie Mueller), Multiple Maniacs is an anarchic masterwork from an artist who has doggedly tested the limits of good taste for decades.
