Heart Eyes 2025

Heart Eyes (2025) is a Valentine’s Day–themed horror-romantic comedy directed by Josh Ruben (known for Scare Me and Werewolves Within). The film stars Olivia Holt as Ally, a cynic ad designer, and Mason Gooding as Jay, her charismatic consulting partner. Together they’re mistaken for a romantic couple by the masked serial killer known as Heart Eyes, who targets couples each February 14.🎬 Plot & Highlights Released theatrically on February 7, 2025, and made available digitally in March. The film began streaming on Netflix starting May 8, 2025, including in Asia shortly after. Plot revolves around Ally’s anti-love campaign coinciding with a Valentine’s Day murder spree. After Jay and Ally are attacked, they must survive the night while fending off the killer. Spoiler alert: The killer turns out to be not one, but a trio—Detective Jeanine Shaw, her husband David, and accomplice Eli. Ally kills Jeanine and David, and in a twist ending, she and Jay are engaged one year later—only to hint at future danger in the mid‑credits scene.👍 Critics & Reviews Rotten Tomatoes: ~81% critics score, ~77–80% audience ratings (Certified Fresh). Metacritic: 62/100 from critics. Box office: Budget of $18M; grossed over $33M worldwide. Streaming stats: Crashed into Netflix US Top 10 at #4 after release.🗣️ Fan & Community Feedback Positive reviews from horror fans highlight strong chase sequences, creative kills, and effective pacing:“The kills were gory, bloody and plentiful… fun chase/attack sequences…” Conversely, some Redditors felt it was overrated or shallow:“It’s just another dog‑shit ‘look at me, I'm so quirky!’ Millennial slop‑fest…”💵 Opening Weekend & Domestic Performance The film debuted in theaters in the U.S. and Canada on February 7, 2025, with an opening weekend gross of approximately $8.3 million from 3,102 theaters. Over Super Bowl weekend (Feb 8–10), it earned about $8.5 million, securing second place at the domestic box office behind Dog Man. Notably, the film significantly held strong with a modest CinemaScore of "B-" and enjoyed growth in ticket sales on Valentine’s Day, defying the typical sophomore drop.📊 Total Gross: Domestic & Worldwide Domestic total revenue reached approximately $30.4 million. International markets contributed an estimated $2.7 million, bringing the total worldwide box office to around $33.13 million.✅ Conclusion Heart Eyes (2025) is a bold and bloody mashup of horror and romantic comedy that delivers a unique twist on Valentine’s Day traditions. Directed by Josh Ruben and starring Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding, it mixes slasher thrills with tongue-in-cheek satire about modern love. With a stylish killer, strong lead chemistry, and a blend of humor and gore, it earned solid reviews and a cult following. While some may find it formulaic or overly quirky, it stands out for its genre blend and holiday timing—making it a fun, seasonal watch for horror-rom-com fans.

No matter how hard you try, you can’t break up with your past. Oscar® winner Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once, Loki) rockets into his first major leading man role as an unlikely hero, a seemingly mild-mannered realtor with a dark secret that he is desperate to leave behind. Spoiler alert: He won’t. From 87North--producers of the groundbreaking action films Nobody, Violent Night, Bullet Train, Atomic Blonde and The Fall Guy--comes a visceral, high-octane story of wrath and revenge. Quan stars as Marvin Gable, a realtor working the Milwaukee suburbs, where 'For Sale’ signs bloom. Gable receives a crimson envelope from Rose (Oscar® winner Ariana DeBose; West Side Story, Argylle), a former partner-in-crime that he had left for dead. She’s not happy. Now, Marvin is thrust back into a world of ruthless hitmen, filled with double-crosses and open houses turned into deadly warzones. With his brother Knuckles (Daniel Wu; Tomb Raider, Warcraft), a volatile crime lord, hunting him, Marvin must confront the choices that haunt him and the history he never truly buried. The film features a killer soundtrack and impressive and diverse cast that includes former NFL running back and Super Bowl champion Marshawn "Beast Mode" Lynch (Bottoms, 80 for Brady), Mustafa Shakir (Emancipation, Luke Cage), Lio Tipton (Crazy, Stupid, Love., Lucy), Rhys Darby (Jumanji: The Next Level, Yes Man), André Eriksen (Violent Night, The Trip) and Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Perry Mason). Produced by 87North’s Kelly McCormick and David Leitch, Love Hurts is written by Matthew Murray (Sheltered, CloudStreet: Soaring the American West) & Josh Stoddard (Warrior, Kaleidoscope) and Luke Passmore (Archenemy, Slaughterhouse Rulez). Guy Danella (Violent Night) is also producing. The executive producer is Ben Ormand.

I didn't realize before going into this, that it's categorized as a "rom-com slasher," so the comedic elements to this film were a little bit of a surprise at first. However, once I fully settled into the groove of what this movie was going for, some elements were easier to forgive. There IS one plot point I had a major issue with, but despite that, it was still an enjoyable watch. I enjoyed the chemistry and comedic interactions between the two leads and the pacing was fine. The kills were pretty gnarly, so I think it'll scratch the itch of most horror fans in that regard. While I'm not a fan of rom-coms, I AM a fan of horror, so something like this is right up my alley.
