Directed by Harry Lighton in his feature debut and based on the 2020 novel Box Hill by Adam Mars-Jones, Pillion is a provocative romantic black comedy-drama that explores themes of identity, desire, and submission. The plot follows Colin (Harry Melling), a timid, introverted traffic warden living with his terminally ill mother in suburban Bromley. His mundane life is transformed when he meets Ray (Alexander Skarsgård), the charismatic and enigmatic leader of a local biker gang. The two enter a strict BDSM relationship where Colin becomes Ray’s submissive, performing domestic chores and obeying every command in exchange for intense, controlled intimacy. As Colin shaves his head and joins the biker world, the story examines the emotional toll of his devotion and the friction it causes with his family. After the death of his mother, Colin experiences a psychological breakdown that eventually forces a shift in their dynamic, leading to a poignant attempt at a "normal" date where the two share their first and only kiss.
