In a subversion of typical fairy tales, the "happily ever after" doesn't involve the parents staying together; instead, they realize they are better off apart, and the curse is broken when they—and Ellian—accept their new family dynamic. Because Spellbound was produced primarily for streaming as part of a multi-year deal between Skydance and Netflix, it did not have a traditional wide theatrical release.
