The Friend 2025
The Friend (2025) is a drama film directed by Scott McGehee and David Siegel, based on the novel of the same name by Sigrid Nunez. The story centers on Iris (Naomi Watts), a writer and teacher in New York City whose life is disrupted after her close friend and mentor, Walter (Bill Murray), dies by suicide. Walter leaves behind his enormous Great Dane, Apollo, to Iris. Despite living in a small, no-pets-allowed apartment, Iris reluctantly takes in the grieving dog.Apollo's imposing presence and needs create immediate challenges for Iris, from damaged furniture to potential eviction. Beyond the practical difficulties, Apollo's constant presence serves as a reminder of Walter's death, forcing Iris to confront her grief and the complicated nature of their friendship. As Iris unexpectedly bonds with Apollo, she begins a journey of healing, coming to terms with her past, her lost friend, and her own creative life.The film explores themes of grief, friendship, the unexpected bonds we form, and finding solace in unexpected places. The Friend had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival in 2024 and was released in the United States on March 28, 2025.

I am a big fan of Naomi Watts as an actress from films like "Mulholland Drive" and "King Kong". And I think she should have won the Oscar for Best Actress for "21 Grams" back in 2003. I am also a fan of Bill Murray as an actor from films like "Broken Flowers", "Ghostbusters", "Scrooged" and "Quick Change". And I think that he should have won the Oscar for Best Actor for "Lost in Translation". Now they are both in a new little independent movie called "The Friend". It is a heartwarming drama about a man who commits suicide and leaves behind a dog, a great Dane for his best friend to take care of now that he is gone. The man who commits suicide is played by Bill Murray in a supporting role and his best friend is played by Naomi Watts, who is the main character. I thought the movie was very good and beautifully acted by Naomi Watts and Bill Murray. Also with a good supporting performance from Carla Gugino. The movie is very enjoyable and involving and a good time at the movies. I am glad that I saw this film. I recommend this movie, especially for animal lovers.
