28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (2026)
Released in January 2026, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is the fourth installment in the 28 Days Later franchise and serves as the middle chapter of a new sequel trilogy. Directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Alex Garland, the film picks up immediately after the events of its 2025 predecessor. The story follows young Spike (Alfie Williams) as he is forcibly inducted into "The Jimmys," a sadistic, cult-like gang led by the charismatic yet psychopathic Sir Lord Jimmy Crystal (Jack O'Connell), who models himself after the real-life figure Jimmy Savile. Parallel to Spike's harrowing survival, Dr. Ian Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) maintains the titular "Bone Temple"—a massive ossuary-monument to the victims of the Rage Virus—while conducting experiments on a captured "Alpha" infected named Samson (Chi Lewis-Parry). In a major franchise turning point, Kelson discovers that the Rage Virus can be cured through a specific drug cocktail, a breakthrough that Samson carries into the film's climax. The movie is notable for its shift in visual style, moving from the iPhone-filmed aesthetic of the previous entry to the high-fidelity Arri Alexa 35, and concludes with a pivotal cameo by Cillian Murphy, reprising his role as Jim to set up the trilogy's final installment.
