A Complete Unknown 2024

A Complete Unknown is a biographical musical drama about the early career of legendary American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. Directed by James Mangold and co-written by Mangold and Jay Cocks, the movie is loosely based on Elijah Wald's 2015 book, Dylan Goes Electric!. The plot focuses on the period between 1961 and 1965, tracing the journey of a 19-year-old Bob Dylan (portrayed by Timothée Chalamet) as he arrives in the influential New York City folk music scene of Greenwich Village. The story follows his meteoric rise from local gigs to worldwide sensation, culminating in his groundbreaking and controversial decision to switch from acoustic folk to electrically amplified rock and roll at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. Chalamet performs his own singing as Dylan. The main cast features a number of actors portraying real-life figures from the music world of the era, including Edward Norton as folk music icon Pete Seeger, Monica Barbaro as singer-songwriter Joan Baez, and Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash. Elle Fanning plays Sylvie Russo, a character based on Dylan's first girlfriend and muse, Suze Rotolo. Other notable cast members include Scoot McNairy as Woody Guthrie and Dan Fogler as manager Albert Grossman.
