Blink Twice 2024

Blink Twice (2024) is a psychological thriller and black comedy that marks the directorial debut of Zoƫ Kravitz, who also co-wrote the screenplay with E.T. Feigenbaum. Released on August 23, 2024, the film stars Naomi Ackie as Frida, a cocktail waitress, who is invited by charismatic tech billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum) to his luxurious private island for a lavish getaway, accompanied by her best friend, Jess (Alia Shawkat). Initially, the trip seems like a dream vacation filled with opulence, sun-soaked days, and wild, drug-infused nights with Slater's inner circle. However, the atmosphere quickly turns unsettling as Frida and others begin to experience strange time jumps, memory lapses, and disturbing physical incongruities, suggesting a sinister reality lurking beneath the tropical paradise. The film, which also features a supporting cast including Christian Slater, Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Kyle MacLachlan, and Geena Davis, explores themes of power dynamics, gender abuse, and the "eat-the-rich" sub-genre, particularly referencing the #MeToo movement and the way powerful men can escape accountability. Frida is eventually compelled to uncover the truth about what is truly happening on the island, leading to a tense and violent climax. The film's overall tone is designed to be disorienting and unsettling, though critics noted it was visually striking and featured strong performances, particularly from Ackie and Tatum, while finding the plotting at times convoluted and the ending divisive.
