Chickenhare and the Secret of the Groundhog 2025
Released in late 2025, Chickenhare and the Secret of the Groundhog (also known as Hopper et le Secret de la Marmotte) is the animated sequel to the 2022 hit Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness. The plot follows the hybrid hero Chickenhare and his loyal sidekicks—the sarcastic turtle Abe and martial arts expert skunk Meg—who have now established themselves as renowned adventurers. Their lives are upended when Chickenhare encounters his long-lost sister, Gina, who reveals that their species, the "Harechickens," is on the verge of extinction because the mystical Tree of Life is dying. The group embarks on a high-stakes quest to find the legendary Groundhog with the Backwards Facing Face, a mythical creature rumored to possess the ancient power to reverse time. Along the way, they must outrun rival factions, including the villainous Crolloq, and navigate treacherous new worlds to secure the only force capable of saving their people. The voice cast features Jordan Tartakow as Chickenhare, Laila Berzins as Meg, and Joe Ochman as Abe, with supporting roles by Christopher Bass and Bernardo De Paula. Directed by Benjamin Mousquet with a budget of approximately $23 million, the film has grossed roughly $8.1 million at the international box office as of early 2026, seeing its strongest performance in European markets like France and the Benelux region. While it remains a theatrical exclusive in many territories, the film began rolling out for digital purchase and streaming on platforms like Apple TV and Rakuten TV in select regions such as South Africa and Portugal in late 2025, with a broader global streaming launch anticipated on major platforms later this year.
