Fear Street: Prom Queen 2025

Fear Street: Prom Queen is a 2025 American supernatural slasher film and the fourth installment in the Fear Street franchise, which is based on the books by R.L. Stine. The plot is set in 1988 at the perpetually cursed Shadyside High during the height of prom season, where the competition for the Prom Queen crown is fiercely fought between the popular "Wolfpack" and the underdog, Lori Granger (India Fowler), whose family is tainted by the town's dark history. The central mystery begins when the prom queen candidates, and their associates, start being brutally murdered by a masked killer in a distinctive red rain poncho, forcing Lori and her friends to uncover a terrifying conspiracy tied to the school’s deep-seated social toxicity and, in a loose connection, the persistent evil of Shadyside. Unlike the original trilogy, this film is a more direct, standalone homage to 1980s slasher classics like Prom Night, with the overall Sarah Fier witch mythology only serving as a minor background element. The film's ensemble cast features young talent, including India Fowler as the protagonist Lori Granger, Suzanna Son as her eccentric best friend Megan Rogers, and Fina Strazza as the main rival Tiffany Falconer, supported by recognizable names like Lili Taylor (as the Vice Principal) and Katherine Waterston and Chris Klein (as Tiffany's parents). Matt Palmer (Calibre) takes over the director's chair from trilogy director Leigh Janiak (who remains an executive producer) and co-wrote the script with Donald McLeary. The film bypassed a theatrical release and premiered exclusively on Netflix on May 23, 2025, which means it had no traditional box office gross. Critically, the film received largely mixed-to-negative reviews, failing to reach the success or critical acclaim of the original Fear Street trilogy. Critics generally praised the commitment of the cast and the film's attempts at a retro 1980s aesthetic, but they heavily criticized the writing for being slow and overstuffed with plot threads, the kills for lacking suspense and originality, and the overall execution for feeling visually "tinny" and overly reliant on '80s music and fashion. It was widely seen as a disappointing step down from its predecessors, with many reviewers calling it a mediocre and derivative slasher.Since Fear Street: Prom Queen was released as a Netflix Original movie, it is already available to stream globally on Netflix as part of the standard subscription.

I've watched all the fear street trilogy and that had better kills and better characters and better villains... this was super rushed and the kills were so boring and the trailer gave away who the killer was so this was disappointing! Could have made it more darker and bloody and put more time in this movie and made it more like prom night (1980) this was not scary at all and nothing was interesting. My favorite character was Megan because she was an interesting character but everyone else was just trash. It was rushed and there should have been a plot twist because the trailer showed to much of the scenes and should have teased us more.
