Gunslingers 2025
The 2025 film Gunslingers is an American Western action-thriller, directed, written, and produced by Brian Skiba, and distributed by Lionsgate. The plot centers on Thomas Keller (Stephen Dorff), America's most wanted man, who flees to the secluded Kentucky town of Redemption after killing a member of the Rockefeller family in 1903 New York and seemingly abandoning his wounded brother, Robert. Redemption is a haven for outlaws who have faked their deaths, led by Jericho (Costas Mandylor). Thomas finds his peace shattered when his ex-wife, Val (Heather Graham), arrives with their daughter, shortly followed by a vengeful Robert (Jeremy Kent Jackson), who leads a bloodthirsty posse and a band of bounty hunters looking for the massive king's ransom offered for Thomas's capture. This leads to an explosive and prolonged shootout in the town, primarily around the local saloon, as the two brothers face off and the residents of Redemption fight for their new lives. The film's cast also notably features Nicolas Cage as Ben, a bizarre, Bible-reading, reformed gunslinger and town photographer who refuses to touch a weapon until the final confrontation, and Scarlet Stallone as Bella, Jericho's daughter. Critics were largely negative, giving the film poor grades and describing it as a flawed, generic, and uninspired action-packed Western that heavily relies on genre tropes. Common criticisms focus on the lackluster script, poor technical aspects like the sound design, underdeveloped characters, and a lack of authentic period atmosphere. However, some reviewers noted that Nicolas Cage's eccentric, over-the-top performance as Ben provides the film's only real source of bizarre entertainment. Gunslingers was released on April 11, 2025, with a limited theatrical run and a simultaneous release On Demand and On Digital platforms via Lionsgate Home Entertainment, indicating it did not receive a wide box office push. It has also been noted as becoming available for streaming on platforms like Netflix shortly after its initial release window.

I am a big fan of gritty westerns which is what this looked like in the trailers, but it is deinitely not. Within 10 minutes I realized the acting was pretty bad. There were moments of believabilty in the characters but mostly seemed like none of them were rehearsed professionals. I really blame the directing that made the whole story predictable and plodding. The effects were on par with 1970's films; bright red blood, punching sounds. By far the worst I've ever seen of Nicholas Cage. His characterization was ridiculous. So, I gave it 2 stars only because I didn't have pay to see it in a theater.
