"Highest 2 Lowest" is a 2025 American neo-noir crime thriller directed by Spike Lee and starring Denzel Washington, Ilfenesh Hadera, Jeffrey Wright, A$AP Rocky, and Ice Spice in her film debut. The film is an English-language reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa's 1963 Japanese film "High and Low," which was itself loosely based on the 1959 novel "King's Ransom" by Ed McBain (Evan Hunter). The plot revolves around David King (Denzel Washington), a titan music mogul whose attempts to save his struggling record label are disrupted when a ransom plot targets him. However, a moral dilemma arises when the kidnappers mistakenly abduct the son of his chauffeur and longtime friend, Paul (Jeffrey Wright), forcing David to decide whether to risk his entire fortune to save the boy.
