The Strangers: Chapter 1 is a 2024 American horror film and the first installment of a standalone trilogy intended to relaunch The Strangers film series, directed by Renny Harlin with a screenplay by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland, based on a story by Bryan Bertino, the writer/director of the original 2008 film. The movie stars Madelaine Petsch as Maya and Froy Gutierrez as her long-time boyfriend, Ryan, a couple driving cross-country to start a new life in the Pacific Northwest. When their car breaks down in the eerie small town of Venus, Oregon, they are forced to spend the night in a secluded, remote Airbnb cabin. Their attempt at a quiet evening quickly turns into a nightmare as they become the prey of three psychopathic, masked assailants—Dollface, Pin-Up Girl, and Man in the Mask (or Scarecrow)—who terrorize them with increasing brutality and seemingly no motive, echoing the chilling premise of the original home-invasion horror.
