28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (2026)
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is the highly anticipated fourth installment in the 28 Days Later film series and the second entry in the new trilogy, scheduled for theatrical release on January 16, 2026. Directed by Nia DaCosta and written by franchise co-creator Alex Garland, the film was shot back-to-back with its predecessor, 28 Years Later (2025). The plot picks up immediately after the first film, expanding the post-apocalyptic Britain ravaged by the Rage Virus, but shifting its focus to the inhumanity of the surviving population, suggesting the infected are no longer the sole or greatest threat. The main storyline follows two distinct, converging paths: one involving the young survivor Spike (Alfie Williams), who is inducted into the bizarre and ruthless cult of acrobatic killers led by Sir Jimmy Crystal (Jack O'Connell). Spike's encounter with this terrifying faction becomes a struggle he desperately tries to escape. The second narrative thread focuses on Dr. Ian Kelson (Ralph Fiennes), an eccentric doctor who built the titular "Bone Temple"—a strange, unsettling monument and sanctuary for the dead—and who now finds himself forming a shocking new relationship with the physically imposing infected Alpha, Samson (Chi Lewis-Parry), with consequences that could change the world. Aaron Taylor-Johnson also returns as Jamie, Spike's scavenger father, who is expected to search for his missing son. Original star Cillian Murphy is confirmed to reprise his role as Jim in a smaller capacity, also serving as an Executive Producer alongside Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, who remain producers for the series.
