Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires 2025
Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires is a 2025 R-rated animated film that reimagines the Batman mythology within the historical context of 16th-century Mesoamerica. The movie, a collaboration between Ánima, Chatrone, and Warner Bros. Animation, is directed by Juan Meza-León and written by Ernie Altbacker. The plot follows Yohualli Coatl, a young Aztec nobleman whose life is shattered when his father is murdered by Spanish conquistadors led by Hernán Cortés. Seeking vengeance and a way to protect his people, Yohualli trains in the temple of the bat god Tzinacan, developing the persona of the "Batman" with weaponry and equipment to fight the invaders. The film features unique reinterpretations of iconic Batman characters. Hernán Cortés is presented as the villainous "Two-Face," while a respected priest named Yoka transforms into a Joker-like figure. The voice cast includes Horacio García Rojas as Yohualli Coatl/Batman in the Spanish version, with Jay Hernandez voicing the character in the English dub. Omar Chaparro voices Yoka/Joker in Spanish, and Raymond Cruz provides the English voice. Álvaro Morte voices Hernán Cortés/Two-Face in the Spanish version. Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires was released in Mexican theaters and on HBO Max on September 18, 2025, with a digital release in the United States on September 19, 2025, followed by a physical release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 23. The film is noted for its bold blend of Aztec culture, history, and the well-known Batman narrative, offering a distinct and visually rich take on the superhero story.
