Bring Her Back 2025
Directed by Danny and Michael Philippou (Talk to Me), Bring Her Back is an Australian supernatural folk horror film that follows 17-year-old Andy and his visually impaired step-sister, Piper, who are placed in foster care after the sudden death of their father. They move into a secluded home with an eccentric former counselor named Laura, who is also fostering a mute, disturbed boy named Oliver. Andy becomes increasingly suspicious of Laura’s erratic behavior and her obsessive favoritism toward Piper. He eventually discovers that Laura is attempting a dark resurrection ritual—learned from an occult VHS tape—to bring back her own deceased daughter, Cathy, who drowned years prior. The horrifying plan involves using the possessed Oliver as a vessel to consume Cathy’s remains and then drowning Piper to provide a fresh host for Cathy's soul. In a frantic climax, Laura kills a social worker and Andy, but just as she is about to drown Piper, the girl’s desperate plea for "mum" breaks Laura's psychological trance. Piper escapes to safety, the demon leaves the boy's body, and a devastated Laura is left cradling her daughter's corpse as the police close in. The film features a central, critically acclaimed performance by Academy Award-nominee Sally Hawkins as the grieving and dangerous Laura. She is supported by a young cast including Billy Barratt as Andy, Sora Wong as Piper, and Jonah Wren Phillips as the troubled foster child, Oliver. Additional cast members include Sally-Anne Upton as the social worker Wendy, Stephen Phillips, Mischa Heywood, and Olga Miller. The project was produced by Causeway Films and distributed domestically in the United States by A24, while Sony Pictures Releasing handled international distribution. In terms of box office performance, Bring Her Back served as a financial success for A24 following a string of underperforming horror titles in early 2025. Produced on a budget of approximately $15 million to $17.5 million, the film grossed roughly $39.4 million worldwide. It earned $19.3 million in the United States and Canada, with an additional $20.1 million from international territories. The film debuted in third place during its domestic opening weekend with $7.2 million, performing significantly better than other genre competitors released in the same quarter. For streaming, the film followed a standard theatrical-to-digital window. It became available for digital purchase and rental (VOD) on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Google Play starting July 1, 2025. Following its digital release, it transitioned to subscription-based streaming, arriving on Netflix on November 22, 2025, in various regions. In specific markets like India, the film has also been made available for rent on services such as Zee5.
