Dracula: A Love Tale 2025
Dracula: A Love Tale is a 2025 gothic romance and romantic fantasy film directed by Luc Besson. The film marks Besson's return to large-scale genre filmmaking, offering a stylized and atmospheric reimagining of Bram Stoker's classic 1897 novel. The film begins in the 15th century with Prince Vlad of Wallachia, a fierce warrior who returns from battle to find his beloved wife, Elisabeta, has died tragically. Devastated and enraged, Vlad renounces God, whom he blames for his loss, and is cursed to exist as an immortal creature of the night. For four centuries, he wanders the earth as Dracula, fueled by a singular hope: that his wife will one day return to him. The setting shifts to the late 19th century, specifically Belle Époque Paris (a departure from the original London setting), where Dracula encounters Mina Murray, a young woman who is the exact reincarnation of Elisabeta. Obsessed with reclaiming his lost love, Dracula uses a supernatural perfume and his dark powers to woo her, while a Vatican-sanctioned priest and monster hunter, Abraham Van Helsing, arrives in the city to stop the ancient vampire's blood-soaked quest. The film features a high-profile international cast led by Caleb Landry Jones as Count Dracula, delivering a performance described by critics as haunting and vulnerable. Zoë Bleu (daughter of Rosanna Arquette) makes her major debut in the dual roles of Elisabeta and Mina Murray. Christoph Waltz stars as the priest and vampire hunter Van Helsing, portrayed here as a seasoned investigator for the Catholic Church. The supporting cast includes Matilda De Angelis as Maria, Ewens Abid as Jonathan Harker, and David Shields as Henry Spencer. The film's lush production is further elevated by a gothic orchestral score from legendary composer Danny Elfman. Produced on a budget of approximately €45 million ($52 million), Dracula: A Love Tale has seen a staggered international release. It premiered in France on July 30, 2025, and across various European markets throughout the fall. As of late 2025, the film has grossed approximately $28.7 million worldwide. A significant portion of these earnings came from Europe and the Russia/CIS region, where the film was particularly well-received. Its financial success is still being tallied, as a wide theatrical release in North America (distributed by Vertical) is scheduled for February 6, 2026, which is expected to bolster its total earnings significantly.Streaming and digital availability for Dracula: A Love Tale varies by region due to the staggered theatrical rollout. In the United Kingdom and Ireland, the film was released digitally on December 1, 2025, under the title Bram Stoker's Dracula. In European markets where its theatrical run has concluded, the film is currently available for digital rental and purchase on platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Google Play. For North American audiences, the film will remain exclusive to theaters following its February 2026 debut before moving to a major streaming platform (likely through Vertical's existing output deals) later in 2026.
