Oh, Hi! (2025)

"Oh, Hi!" (2025) is an American romantic comedy film with dark and psychological thriller elements, directed by Sophie Brooks, who also co-wrote the story and screenplay with Molly Gordon. The film stars Molly Gordon as Iris and Logan Lerman as Isaac, a new couple whose first romantic weekend getaway takes an unexpectedly wild and unhinged turn. The plot revolves around Iris and Isaac embarking on what seems like a perfect romantic escape to a rustic farmhouse. However, during an intimate moment where Isaac is playfully chained to the bed, he casually mentions he's not looking for a serious relationship. This revelation shatters Iris's perception of their connection, leading her to refuse to unchain him. What follows is an escalating series of increasingly desperate and comically dark attempts by Iris to make Isaac see her as "the one" and commit, including involving her best friend Max (Geraldine Viswanathan) and Max's boyfriend Kenny (John Reynolds) in a bizarre, almost criminal kidnapping scenario. The film blends the initial charm of a romantic comedy with a descent into the unsettling and unhinged, exploring the anxieties and absurdities of modern dating, commitment, and miscommunication. "Oh, Hi!" had its world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival on January 26, 2025, and is scheduled for a limited theatrical release in the United States on July 25, 2025, distributed by Sony Pictures Classics. The film's run time is approximately 95 minutes and it is rated R for sexual content/some nudity and language. Critical reception has been mixed but generally positive, with many praising the performances of Molly Gordon and Logan Lerman, the clever and dark comedic writing, and its unique take on the rom-com genre, even if some found the plot to become contrived in its later stages.
