Sisu: Road to Revenge (Sisu 2) 2025
Written and directed by Jalmari Helander, Sisu: Road to Revenge is the high-octane, hyper-violent sequel to the 2022 Finnish action film Sisu. The story picks up in 1946, shortly after World War II, where the legendary ex-commando turned gold prospector, Aatami Korpi, is returning to Soviet-occupied Karelia to dismantle and transport his former family home—a site filled with tragic memories. His new mission of remembrance is interrupted when he crosses paths with Igor Draganov, a ruthless Red Army commander (and the man responsible for the brutal murder of Aatami’s family years prior). Aatami, a man embodying the Finnish spirit of "Sisu" (unyielding resolve), is forced back into action, leading to a relentless, cross-country chase and a final, personal confrontation fueled by vengeance. Jorma Tommila reprises his role as the taciturn, virtually indestructible Aatami Korpi, with American actor Stephen Lang (Avatar, Don't Breathe) joining the cast as the new Soviet antagonist, Igor Draganov. Richard Brake also joins the cast as a KGB officer. The sequel was released to a generally positive critical response, with many reviewers calling it a successful, albeit inferior, follow-up to the original. It holds a "Fresh" rating of roughly 71% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising director Helander for his continued mastery of chaotic, over-the-top action sequences and inventive kills. The film was noted for its incredible stunt work, tight editing, and Jorma Tommila's ability to convey immense emotion with almost no dialogue. However, critics widely considered it to be "more of the same," with a predictable plot and a feeling that the narrative was stretched to create a sequel, despite being a tremendously satisfying action ride. Sisu: Road to Revenge premiered at Fantastic Fest in September 2025 and was released theatrically in the United States by Screen Gems (Sony Pictures) on November 21, 2025. Despite having a significantly wider release (over 2,100 locations) than the first film, its opening weekend box office was modest, grossing approximately $2.6 million domestically. It is performing moderately but is not a breakout theatrical success. As it was just released, it is currently available in theaters. Based on its distribution, the film is expected to arrive on digital VOD platforms in late December 2025, and will eventually stream on Netflix or Disney+ Hotstar in India (and potentially on a platform like Starz or Peacock in the US) in early 2026.
