The 47 (2024)
The film "The 47" (Original Catalan title: El 47) is a 2024 Spanish historical drama directed by Marcel Barrena and co-written with Alberto Marini. The movie is inspired by a true story from 1978 Barcelona and focuses on a compelling act of civil disobedience. The central character is Manolo Vital (played by Eduard Fernández), a bus driver for the city's Route 47. He lives in the marginalized immigrant neighborhood of Torre Baró, which the City Council repeatedly claimed could not be serviced by public buses due to its steep, difficult terrain, leaving residents isolated and without essential public transport. Fed up with the systemic neglect and the lie perpetuated by the local government, Manolo takes a bold, non-violent action: he "hijacks" his own Route 47 bus and, with the support of his neighbors, successfully drives it through the challenging streets of Torre Baró. This act dramatically proves the council's claims false, becoming a powerful symbol of working-class struggle, neighborhood pride, and a catalyst for change in the city's modern development. The cast also features prominent actors such as Clara Segura and Zoe Bonafonte. The film was released theatrically in Spain on September 6, 2024, and has received significant critical acclaim, including multiple awards and nominations, such as the Goya Award for Best Film.
