The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021) is the third main installment in The Conjuring franchise, directed by Michael Chaves. It follows real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren—played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga—as they delve into a sensational 1981 murder case. A young man, Arne Johnson, claims demonic possession as his defense—a first in U.S. legal history .📊 Critics & Performance Worldwide, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It grossed approximately $206.4 million, combining its domestic haul of about $65.6 M with an international total near $140.8 M Box Office: $65.6 M domestic, $206.4 M worldwide. Critical Scores: 56% on Rotten Tomatoes (Tomatometer), 83% audience positivity. Mixed Reviews: Times of India praised its suspense and storytelling, rating it 4/5. Roger Ebert’s critic found pacing uneven and a lack of a focal haunted setting. Reddit noted it “felt underwhelming” compared to earlier entries like those by James Wan.🔎 How It Fits in The Conjuring Universe Chronologically, it’s set in 1981 after The Conjuring 2 (1977). It’s the 8th overall film in the extended cinematic universe and marks the first to explore a true-crime demonic-possession defense.👻 Is It Worth Watching? If you're a fan of the Warrens, enjoy horror mixed with courtroom drama, or intrigued by the real-life Arne Johnson case—this is a suspenseful ride. It offers solid performances, notably by Wilson and Farmiga. However, if you're seeking a classic, claustrophobic haunted-house scare like the first two films, this one leans more procedural and less spine-chilling.🧭 What’s Next? A fourth Conjuring installment, The Conjuring: Last Rites, directed again by Michael Chaves with Wilson and Farmiga returning, is slated for release in September 2025.📺 Current Streaming Platforms Global/Multiple Regions Netflix (India) — Available to stream with subscription in India. It explores a chilling true story—the first U.S. murder trial where demonic possession was used as a defense—anchored by strong performances from Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. While it doesn’t deliver the same slow-burn terror as earlier entries directed by James Wan, it’s still a gripping watch for fans of paranormal thrillers and those invested in the Warrens' legacy. If you’re following The Conjuring Universe, this chapter is essential, though it may not top the scares of its predecessors.

NO SPOILERS! Weakest of the series and and I have to believe the missing piece was director James Wan. The scares were way too predictable, the script felt one note and even though I went in cold I could still see the ending a mile away. Solid turns by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as they have always done but still even they couldn't elevate this one.
