The School for Good and Evil 2022
The 2022 film The School for Good and Evil is a fantasy adventure directed by Paul Feig and based on the best-selling 2013 novel of the same name by Soman Chainani. The story follows two inseparable best friends from the village of Gavaldon: Sophie (Sophia Anne Caruso), a beautiful girl who dreams of escaping her ordinary life to become a princess, and Agatha (Sofia Wylie), a cynical outcast often accused of being a witch. The girls are whisked away to the legendary School for Good and Evil, an enchanted institution where aspiring fairytale heroes (Evers) and villains (Nevers) are trained to maintain the balance between good and evil. In a reversal of their expectations, the aspiring princess Sophie is dropped at the School for Evil (mentored by Lady Lesso, played by Charlize Theron), while the gloomy Agatha is placed in the School for Good (mentored by Professor Dovey, played by Kerry Washington). The friends must then navigate their opposing schools, with Sophie desperate to switch to the School for Good to pursue Prince Tedros (Jamie Flatters), son of King Arthur, and Agatha simply wishing to return home. Their friendship is tested as they struggle to prove their true places, uncovering a dangerous force at work that threatens the entire school, led by the mysterious School Master (Laurence Fishburne) and the power of the magical Storian (voiced by Cate Blanchett).

I enjoyed watching this movie and it was good overall. The scenery was beautiful, despite some lacking CGI like in the case of the wolf heads. I read this series of books about 6-7 years ago so I don't exactly remember the plot/essence of those, so I can't comment on the accuracy of this adaptation. The acting, especially on the part of sophie anne caruso, was pretty poorly done. To be fair, the writing did not do her character any justice either but the acting made the character overall bad. I thought sofia wylie did an excellent job, as well as charlize theron, kerry washington, and Michelle yeoh. The character of tedros was also poorly written and acted, and honestly the relationship betweeen tedros and sophie was not written or developed well in the movie. Overall this movie was just average, not terrible or anything, but I will not be rewatching ever. If the story is interesting to you, I would recommend reading the book series, as the author has quite a few other books in this series written.
