Adulthood 2025
Directed by Alex Winter and written by Michael M.B. Galvin, the 2025 film Adulthood is a suburban noir comedy with a dark and absurd premise. The movie follows a brother and sister, Noah (Josh Gad) and Megan (Kaya Scodelario), who are struggling in their adult lives. When they return to their childhood home to care for their ailing mother, they make a shocking discovery: a long-buried corpse in the basement. This grim find pulls them into a chaotic spiral of crime, cover-ups, and murder as they attempt to protect their family and conceal the truth. The cast also features Billie Lourd and Anthony Carrigan. Adulthood premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, 2025, with a limited theatrical release in the United States on September 19, 2025, and a digital/VOD release on September 23, 2025. The film is distributed by Republic Pictures and has a runtime of 97 minutes. While it's been described as a "dark comedy," reviews have noted a tonal inconsistency, with some praising the cast's chemistry while others find the humor and pacing to be uneven.

A unique approach to a murder comedy in the sense that it consistently yet subtly demonstrates the arc of the protagonists evolving (or devolving) into their own adulthood. The film does a good job of keeping you on your toes, not in too overly active a way but in thorough passivity, wondering which is the next shoe to drop.
