Fuori 2025

"Fuori" is a 2025 biographical drama film directed by Mario Martone, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Ippolita Di Majo. Inspired by Goliarda Sapienza's 1983 novel "L'università di Rebibbia," the film stars Valeria Golino as the Italian author Goliarda Sapienza, alongside Matilda De Angelis and Elodie. The plot is set in 1980s Rome and follows Goliarda Sapienza after her magnum opus, "The Art of Joy," is rejected by publishers, leading her to commit a desperate act of jewelry theft that lands her in Rebibbia prison. This incarceration, though brief, proves to be a life-changing experience as she forms deep bonds with other inmates, particularly with Roberta, a young political activist. After their release, the women continue to meet, fostering a unique connection that helps Goliarda rediscover her joy for life and her passion for writing. The film, with a runtime of 115 or 117 minutes, had its world premiere at the 78th Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2025, and was theatrically released in Italy on May 22, 2025, distributed by 01 Distribution.
