Krampus 2015

Directed by Michael Dougherty, Krampus (2015) is a festive horror-comedy that explores the dark side of holiday folklore. The story follows young Max Engel, who, despite his family's constant bickering, tries to maintain his belief in Santa Claus. After his cynical cousins mock his heartfelt letter to Santa during a disastrous Christmas dinner, Max loses his spirit, tears up the letter, and throws it to the wind. This act inadvertently summons Krampus, a demonic ancient entity who punishes those who lose their holiday hope. A massive blizzard cuts off the town's power and heat, trapping the Engels and their visiting relatives. One by one, family members are picked off by Krampus’s twisted minions, including murderous gingerbread men, a demonic jack-in-the-box, and predatory "dark elves." Eventually, Max confronts Krampus at a fiery pit to Hell, pleading for his family’s return in exchange for his own life. He wakes up in his bed on Christmas morning to find his family safe, but the final shot reveals they are living inside a snow globe in Krampus’s lair, perpetually watched by the demon. The film features a strong ensemble cast led by Emjay Anthony as Max Engel. Adam Scott and Toni Collette play his parents, Tom and Sarah, while Allison Tolman and David Koechner portray his aunt Linda and uncle Howard. Conchata Ferrell provides comedic relief as the cantankerous Aunt Dorothy, and Krista Stadler plays Omi, the grandmother who shares the legend of Krampus. The physical performance of the titular creature was handled by Luke Hawker, while the various demonic toys and minions were brought to life through a mix of puppetry by Weta Workshop and voice acting, including contributions from Seth Green and Justin Roiland. Produced on a modest budget of $15 million, Krampus was a commercial success for Universal Pictures and Legendary. It opened in the United States on December 4, 2015, earning $16.3 million in its debut weekend. The film eventually grossed approximately $42.7 million domestically and $18.8 million internationally, bringing its total worldwide box office to roughly $61.5 million. Its strong performance was noted for holding steady throughout the December corridor, becoming a modern cult classic for the holiday season. In 2025, the streaming availability for Krampus (2015) is primarily anchored on Netflix and Peacock across several major markets. Following its high-profile addition to the Netflix library in October 2025 for the holiday season, viewers in countries like the United States, Germany, and several Asian territories can stream it directly on that platform. In the United States, the film also remains a staple on Peacock and is available through AMC+, Shudder, and The Roku Channel. For viewers in the United Kingdom, the movie is currently available on Sky Cinema and NOW (until the end of December 2025), while in Canada, it can be found on Crave. In Australia, the film is accessible via Paramount+ and Binge. For regions where it is not currently included in a subscription, Krampus is universally available for digital rental or purchase on global platforms such as Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, and YouTube.
