Meet the Khumalos 2025
Grace Khumalo (Khanyi Mbau), a stylish and successful suburban mom, is thrown into chaos when her former best friend turned rival, Bongi Sithole (Ayanda Borotho), moves in next door. The feud heats up when their children—Sizwe (Jesse Suntele) and Sphe (Khosi Ngema)—are revealed to be secretly dating. Determined to break them up, the moms launch a comedic neighborhood battle that ultimately leads to unexpected alliances and heartfelt moments. This film is a spiritual successor—more like a reimagined version—of Moodley’s 2017 hit Meet the Kandasamys, adapted into a Zulu cultural context.🌍 Filming Locations Shot in KwaZulu-Natal and Cape Town, including scenes at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (Durban), Zimbali Estate, and coastal areas like Umhlanga Rocks, offering a picturesque South African backdrop.📊 Critics & Ratings Viewership Within a week of its release, Meet the Khumalos reached #4 on Netflix’s Global Top 10. It was among the most-watched films in 35 countries with approximately 4.8 million views.Critic & Audience Feedback Rotten Tomatoes shows limited critic coverage but diverse audience opinion—with ratings ranging from enthusiastic 5‑star reviews to harsh criticism.. News24 noted that while promising in concept, the execution left some disappointed. IMDb user reviews were largely critical:"Same old movies, same old cast... This was painful to watch, not funny at all." – Munzhedzi777 rated it 1/10Another reviewer gave it 0.5/5, calling it a "cheap knockoff" of its predecessor.Briefly.co.za similarly reports many viewers in South Africa calling it a "waste of time" and lambasting production quality. Some praise was reserved for Ayanda Borotho’s performance.📺 Where to Watch Meet the Khumalos is streaming now exclusively on Netflix, available for streaming and download in multiple regions.🌟 Conclusion Meet the Khumalos (2025) aims to blend South African cultural flair with family-centered comedy, drawing inspiration from the successful Kandasamys franchise. While it delivers colorful visuals, strong performances (especially from Khanyi Mbau and Ayanda Borotho), and relatable family drama, it has received mixed to negative reviews for its predictable plot, recycled humor, and lack of originality. If you're looking for a light, culturally specific rom-com and don’t mind familiar tropes, it may still be worth a casual watch on Netflix. But if you expect a fresh take or emotional depth, you might come away disappointed.

Meet the Khumalos😊 Meet the Khumalos came up on our Netflix on 11/4/2025. As a south African born, and a fan of Jayans previous work Keeping up with the Kandasamys which we all loved, I watched it and Im based in the UK. I was impressed from the start to finish. The movie flowed so well and I was glued to the screens. The actors and actresses all were brilliant in each of their own characters. The scenes were authentic and I could relate to them. Many familiar places and markets added to the authenticity. Overall a brilliant production by Jayan Moodley..its definitely a Netflix hit..Ive since recommended to other friends and family. I cant wait to see more of the Khumalos and more work from the very talented Jayan Moodley 🙏😊😃
