The Great Flood 2025
Released globally on December 19, 2025, the South Korean sci-fi disaster blockbuster "The Great Flood" (directed by Kim Byung-woo) follows the harrowing final day of Earth after a catastrophic asteroid strike in Antarctica triggers a global deluge. The story centers on An-na (played by Kim Da-mi), a dedicated AI researcher who finds herself trapped with her young son, Ja-in (Kwon Eun-seong), in a rapidly submerging 30-story apartment complex in Seoul. As the waters rise, she is joined by Hee-jo (Park Hae-soo), a stoic security agent sent to rescue her for a mission far more critical than simple survival. The film takes a mind-bending turn midway through, revealing that the "flood" is part of a complex, virtual reality time-loop experiment designed to cultivate genuine human emotion within an artificial "Emotion Engine." An-na discovers that Ja-in is actually Newman-77, a synthetic child, and she must repeatedly relive the trauma of the disaster to "prove" the depth of maternal love required to reboot humanity's future. The film concludes with the successful completion of the experiment as An-na and the child are seen aboard a spaceship, representing the last hope for a civilization fleeing a drowned Earth."The Great Flood" is currently available for worldwide streaming exclusively on Netflix.
