The Rip 2026
Written and directed by Joe Carnahan, the Netflix crime thriller The Rip (2026) is scheduled for global release on January 16, 2026. This high-stakes action film follows a specialized unit of Miami police officers, led by Dane Dumars and JD Byrne, played by longtime collaborators and producers Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The plot centers on the group's discovery of millions of dollars in untraceable cash hidden within a derelict stash house, a find that rapidly dissolves their professional bonds into a web of paranoia and suspicion. As external criminal elements and rival law enforcement agencies learn about the massive seizure, the officers are forced into a desperate struggle for survival where they must determine which of their colleagues can still be trusted. The film features a powerhouse ensemble cast including Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Kyle Chandler as a DEA agent, and Scott Adkins as Byrne’s brother, alongside supporting roles from Catalina Sandino Moreno, Néstor Carbonell, and Lina Esco. Produced under Damon and Affleck’s Artists Equity banner, the project is described as a gritty homage to 1970s police procedurals like Serpico and Prince of the City, but updated with the visceral, modern intensity characteristic of Carnahan's previous work such as Narc. Clocking in at 133 minutes, the film has officially received an R rating for pervasive language and intense violence, promising a realistic and dark exploration of corruption and the fraying of loyalty under extreme pressure.
