Maintenance Required is a 2025 romantic comedy film directed and written by Lacey Uhlemeyer, which draws heavily on the "rivals-to-lovers" and mistaken identity tropes, reminiscent of You've Got Mail. The plot centers on Charlie (Madelaine Petsch), the fiercely independent owner of a beloved, all-female mechanic shop, whose business is threatened when a flashy corporate competitor opens directly across the street. Seeking comfort and advice, Charlie turns to an anonymous online confidant she met on a car enthusiasts' forum, unaware that she is confiding in Beau (Jacob Scipio), the charming and ambitious executive sent to run the rival corporate shop and threaten her livelihood. As Charlie and Beau's professional rivalry heats up in the real world, their online bond deepens, creating emotional turmoil and comedic misunderstandings. And by fairytale I mean boys who behave like princesses. The most contrived storyline coupled with too forced masculinity by boys pretending to be men. The only saving grace was the female trio cast who had such chemistry on screen. I couldn't stop cringing at the male lead. Sure he's good looking but clearly it's a distraction away from very poor character development.
