Marty Supreme 2025

Released on December 25, 2025, Marty Supreme is a hyperkinetic sports comedy-drama directed by Josh Safdie and co-written by Ronald Bronstein, loosely inspired by the life of legendary ping-pong hustler Marty Reisman. Set in 1950s New York City, the film stars Timothée Chalamet as Marty Mauser, a shoe salesman who moonlights as a world-class table tennis player with a relentless, "whatever-it-takes" ambition. The plot follows Marty as he stages a robbery at his own workplace to fund a trip to the British Open, eventually traveling across Japan, Egypt, and the Balkans in pursuit of the world championship. Along the way, he navigates a complex sexual relationship with a wealthy socialite, Kay Stone (Gwyneth Paltrow), and a tumultuous affair with his childhood friend Rachel (Odessa A’zion). The narrative takes a dark, Safdie-esque turn involving a kidnapping and shootout led by criminal Ezra Mishkin (Abel Ferrara), before culminating in an emotional finale where a banned Marty returns home to meet his newborn child. The star-studded ensemble cast also features Tyler, The Creator as Marty’s friend Wally, Kevin O’Leary as Milton Rockwell, Fran Drescher as Marty's mother, and professional athletes like Tracy McGrady and Kemba Walker as Globetrotters. Financially, the film is A24's most expensive production to date with a budget of approximately $70 million; it made history during its limited debut with a record-breaking $145,900 per-screen average and earned over $9.5 million on Christmas Day alone, bringing its early domestic total to approximately $19.4 million. While currently a theatrical exclusive, Marty Supreme is expected to begin streaming worldwide on Max (formerly HBO Max) in April 2026 following A24’s standard distribution window.
