Monster Summer 2024

Monster Summer (2024) is an American adventure horror film directed by David Henrie and written by Cornelius Uliano and Bryan Schulz, serving as a throwback to nostalgic 1980s- and 90s-style kids' adventure movies. The story is set in the mid-1990s and follows Noah Reed (Mason Thames), a young boy with aspirations of being a hard-hitting journalist, whose summer fun on a small East Coast island is suddenly disrupted by a mysterious force. When a series of strange child disappearances and incidents begin, including one that leaves his best friend in a near-catatonic state, Noah and his friends grow convinced that a cackling witch is responsible. Desperate for help, the kids team up with Gene Carruthers (Mel Gibson), a grizzled, reclusive neighbor and retired police detective who initially scoffs at the idea of "fairy-tale monsters," having spent his career hunting "real monsters." The unlikely pairing sees the former cop and the aspiring journalist form a bond as they work together to investigate the sinister events, uncovering that the true evil on their island is a monster that seeks to steal and consume the innocence and will-to-live of children. The film, which also stars Lorraine Bracco as a central suspicious character and features Julian Lerner, Noah Cottrell, and Abby James Witherspoon, premiered on September 24, 2024, and was released in the United States on October 4, 2024.
