Morbius 2022
Michael Morbius is a biochemist born with a very rare and debilitating blood disease. Driven by his condition and compassion for others like him, he pursues a risky cure. The key turn comes when he experiments with bat DNA (specifically from vampire bats) and injects himself with a serum meant to help. Instead, he ends up transforming: he acquires vampire‑like abilities (super strength, echolocation, flight, healing etc.) but also a powerful blood‑lust and other darker traits. As he tries to control these new urges, his childhood friend Lucien (“Milo”) — who suffers from the same disease — becomes increasingly desperate. Milo wants the serum too, but when Morbius refuses (for ethical and safety reasons), their relationship breaks down badly. Milo embraces the vampiric side without restraint, becoming a foil to Morbius’s struggle. There are also law enforcement / FBI agents investigating strange deaths (blood drained etc.), a love interest (Dr. Martine Bancroft), and a mentor figure (Dr. Emil Nikols). Morbius’s moral conflict is central: can he save people / do good, or will his darker nature and the consequences of his experiments overpower him? At the end there’s a confrontation between Morbius and Milo; major losses (people close to Morbius die), and Morbius sort of accepts his new identity. There are mid‑credits / post‑credits scenes connecting to the wider Spider‑Man / Sony Pictures Universe (e.g. Vulture shows up) hinting at future crossovers.🗣️ Critics Critic Reviews: Generally negative. Rotten Tomatoes score was ~15% among critics. Audience: More mixed/average. Some viewers liked Jared Leto’s performance or the horror/superhero mix. Criticisms often pointed to: Weak plot / pacing issues. CGI / visual effects that felt muddy or underwhelming in parts. One-dimensional or under‑used supporting characters. Moments of tonal inconsistency; the movie tries to do horror, drama, superhero, etc., sometimes leaving things muddled. Box Office: It did not flop completely but it underperformed relative to expectations.💰 Box Office PerformanceThe 2022 film Morbius grossed a total of approximately $167.5 million worldwide. Here's a breakdown of its box office performance:Domestic (North America): $73.9 million International: $93.6 million Production Budget: Approximately $75 millionWhile the film's worldwide gross exceeded its production budget, its overall theatrical run was considered a commercial disappointment, especially in the context of other major superhero films.🎯 Conclusion on Morbius (2022) Morbius attempted to blend superhero action with horror and tragedy, focusing on a morally conflicted anti-hero. While the character had potential and the concept was intriguing — a scientist who becomes a vampire while trying to cure himself — the execution fell short for many viewers and critics. Despite Jared Leto’s committed performance and a few stylish moments, the film struggled with: A weak script and underdeveloped characters Unfocused tone (part-horror, part-superhero, part-drama) Rushed pacing and clichéd dialogue Unconvincing visual effects in partsIt has become somewhat infamous online — mostly for memes (“It’s Morbin’ time”), but also as an example of how not to launch a cinematic universe entry. Still, for fans of darker superhero stories or vampire themes, it might be worth a watch with tempered expectations. Final verdict: A missed opportunity that leans more toward forgettable than fearsome — but it might still be “so bad it’s good” fun for the right audience.
