Bison Kaalamaadan 2025
Directed by Mari Selvaraj (Pariyerum Perumal, Karnan), Bison Kaalamaadan (often simply titled Bison) is a gritty biographical sports drama inspired by the life of Arjuna Award-winning Kabaddi player Manathi Ganesan. Set in rural Tamil Nadu, the story follows Kittan Velusamy, a fiery young man from an oppressed community who battles systemic caste discrimination, violent factionalism, and the disapproval of his own fearful father to pursue his dream of becoming a national Kabaddi champion. Dhruv Vikram stars as the intense protagonist Kittan, delivering a physically demanding performance that required months of Kabaddi training. He is supported by Pasupathy as his conflicted father Velusamy, Anupama Parameswaran as his love interest Raani, and Rajisha Vijayan as his sister, with Lal and Ameer playing key roles as rival faction leaders. The film received a generally positive-to-mixed reception following its Diwali 2025 release. Critics universally praised the "world-building" and the immersive, dusty atmosphere that Director Mari Selvaraj created, as well as Dhruv Vikram's dedication to the role. However, the film was frequently critiqued for its runtime (nearly 3 hours) and for following a somewhat predictable "underdog sports movie" template that lacked the razor-sharp narrative tightness of Selvaraj's previous films. While the Kabaddi sequences were lauded for their realism, some reviewers felt the heavy dialogue and slow pacing diluted the emotional impact of the climax. Bison Kaalamaadan was released theatrically on October 17, 2025, coinciding with the Diwali festival. It faced stiff competition from other releases (like the rom-com Dude) but managed a respectable run, grossing approximately ₹65–70 crore worldwide. While not a massive blockbuster, it is considered a commercial success and stands as one of the highest-grossing films in Mari Selvaraj's career. Following its theatrical window, it made its digital premiere on Netflix on November 21, 2025, where it is currently available to stream in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.

The story focusses on the hardships faced by a lower caste boy in his life, for no fault of his. This movie will be for Dhruv, same as Nanda movie was for Surya. Santosh Narayanan's music and songs are apt. I would like to see more such movies in Indian film industry, next generation kids needs to know about the life of under privileged men, like the Kittan in this movie.
