Diés Iraé 2025

The Malayalam-language horror thriller film Diés Iraé (Latin for "Day of Wrath") was released on October 31, 2025, and is written and directed by Rahul Sadasivan. It is produced by Chakravarthy Ramachandra and S. Sashikanth under Night Shift Studios and YNOT Studios. The main cast features Pranav Mohanlal as Rohan, alongside Sushmitha Bhat as Kani, Gibin Gopinath as Madhusudhanan Potti, and Jaya Kurup as Elsamma. The story centers on Rohan (Pranav Mohanlal), an affluent Indo-American architect living a comfortable life in a luxurious mansion in Kerala. His life takes a dark turn after the suicide of his former classmate and brief love interest, Kani (Sushmitha Bhat), a Bharatanatyam dancer. Driven by a vague sense of remorse, Rohan visits Kani's family and, while in her room, inexplicably takes a red hair clip as a keepsake. Soon after returning home, he begins to experience disturbing and violent supernatural occurrences—he hears the jingling of anklets (chilanka), feels unseen hands, and is physically attacked by an invisible force. Initially suspecting Kani's vengeful spirit, Rohan seeks help from Kani's neighbour, Madhusudanan Potti (Gibin Gopinath), a descendant of traditional exorcists. A major twist reveals that the malevolent entity is not Kani, but a tall, thin, headless male ghost. Their investigation points to Manu Philip Sebastian (Philip), a local copy-shop worker who had obsessively stalked Kani before succumbing to cancer. They track down Manu's mother, Elsamma (Jaya Kurup), who was Kani's housemaid and discovers Manu's decaying corpse still inside her house, wearing Kani's stolen anklets. Elsamma, consumed by grief, had anchored her son's soul to the mortal world using Kani's anklets and black magic, causing his vengeful and confused spirit to attack Rohan for taking Kani's hair clip. In the climax, Rohan and Madhu confront Elsamma, and Rohan is forced to hack off Manu's rotting legs bearing the anklets and set them ablaze in a ritual fire to free the tormented spirit. The fire consumes the house, and the spirit is released. However, as Rohan prepares to leave for the US, the film ends on an ominous note, suggesting his ordeal is not over when he senses the ghostly movement on his bed once more, hinting at the return of Kani's spirit. The film performed well at the box office, grossing over ₹82 crore worldwide (approx. $9.9 million USD), with a domestic collection of over ₹40 crore in India, making it one of the top Malayalam earners of 2025.Following its successful theatrical run, Diés Iraé began streaming digitally on JioHotstar starting December 5, 2025, and is available in multiple languages including Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Kannada.
