Roofman 2025

The 2025 film Roofman, directed by Derek Cianfrance, is a crime comedy-drama based on the unbelievable true story of Jeffrey Manchester, a former Army Ranger and struggling single father who turned to crime. The plot centers on Jeffrey (played by Channing Tatum), who earns the nickname "Roofman" by robbing over 40 McDonald's restaurants by cutting holes through their roofs, a crime committed out of desperation to provide for his children. After a daring prison escape from a 45-year sentence, he secretly lives undetected for six months inside a local Toys "R" Us store, using his military-honed skills to survive and plan his next move. His quiet, double life begins to unravel when he meets and falls for Leigh (Kirsten Dunst), a charming, divorced mother and employee at the store, setting off a compelling and suspenseful game of cat and mouse as the police close in on the fugitive. The ensemble cast also features notable names such as LaKeith Stanfield, Ben Mendelsohn, Peter Dinklage, Juno Temple, Uzo Aduba, and Jimmy O. Yang. Critically, the film has been met with strong praise, earning a "Certified Fresh" rating of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics acknowledging the film's blend of dark humor, suspense, and unexpected tenderness, and particularly highlighting the strong performances by Tatum and Dunst, even though some felt the overall tone was uneven. Released theatrically on October 10, 2025, the box office performance was moderate, with a production budget reported to be around $18-$19 million. Its domestic opening was approximately $8.1 million and its current worldwide gross is estimated to be around $30.5 million to $31 million as of early November 2025, suggesting it is on track to recoup its production cost but not yet hitting the break-even target of roughly $47.5 million.

The movie was good, just a bit too long and drug out. Could have cut 20-30 minutes and made it an excellent movie. However, Channing Tatum, Kirsten Dunst and Peter Dinklage are very good in this movie. I wouldn't call this a comedy either. It had a funny moment or two but it is more a drama than anywhere near a comedy.
