Wicked: For Good 2025
Directed by Jon M. Chu, this second and final chapter of the Wicked film adaptation dramatizes the second act of the stage musical, bringing the saga of Oz’s witches to its emotional conclusion. Picking up immediately after Elphaba’s defiant flight, the story sees her branded as the "Wicked Witch of the West" while her former friend Glinda is seduced by power, becoming the public face of "Good" under the Wizard's regime. As Elphaba fights to expose the corruption behind the Wizard and save the animals of Oz, the narrative intersects with the familiar events of The Wizard of Oz, revealing the tragic and heroic origins of the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion before the arrival of Dorothy Gale changes everything. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande return to their starring roles as Elphaba and Glinda, joined again by Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero), Jeff Goldblum (The Wizard), and Michelle Yeoh (Madame Morrible). New additions to the voice cast include Colman Domingo, who provides the voice for the Cowardly Lion. Reviews for the sequel have been generally positive, though slightly more mixed than the first installment. Critics have widely praised the "powerhouse" vocal performances of Erivo and Grande, noting that the emotional payoff of their friendship remains the film's strongest asset. Visually, the film is described as a colorful, maximalist spectacle that justifies the big-screen adaptation. However, some reviewers have critiqued the runtime and pacing, feeling that stretching the second act into a full-length feature results in a "bloated" screenplay that drags in the middle before its tear-jerking finale. It currently holds a "Fresh" rating on review aggregators, though with a slightly lower score than its predecessor, often cited as a satisfying if occasionally overindulgent conclusion. The film hits US theaters today, November 21, 2025, marking it as the major blockbuster event of the holiday season. Industry projections are incredibly high, forecasting a massive domestic opening weekend in the range of $150–$180 million, potentially making it one of the highest-grossing openings of the year. Because of this massive theatrical demand, it will not be available on streaming services immediately. It is expected to follow a standard theatrical window of at least 90 days, likely arriving on Peacock (NBCUniversal's streaming service) around February or March 2026, followed by digital rental platforms.

After all of the audio cuts from the trailers that had me SO looking forward to entire numbers, I daresay it landed flat for me. I wanted to be gut-wrenched during and after this film but I just wasn't. There wasn't enough tension build-up to release during For Good and unfortunately I was underwhelmed by the delivery. I left the theater unmoved by the supporting cast performances. Act II is known to be the weaker act for the stage version, but the film had an opportunity to deliver better pacing and fuller picture. The plot points that feel rushed on stage felt rushed in the move as well. Overall, the film kept my interest and boasts stunning optics, but doesn't touch the level of masterpiece or re-watchability part one had.
