Hedda 2025

Hedda (2025) is a provocative American drama film written and directed by Nia DaCosta, offering a modern, queer-inclusive reimagining of Henrik Ibsen's classic 1890 play, Hedda Gabler. Starring Tessa Thompson in the title role, the film transplants the action to a country estate in 1950s England, centering on Hedda, the manipulative daughter of a General, who is trapped in a loveless marriage to academic George (Tom Bateman) and desperately desires a life of wealth. The plot intensifies during a decadent house party after Hedda and George return from their honeymoon, as George is in desperate need of a prestigious professorship to pay off their debts. The tension explodes with the unexpected arrival of Eileen Lovborg (Nina Hoss), a brilliant classicist, Hedda's beautiful ex-lover (a gender-swapped character from the play), and George's academic rival for the same professorship.
