Shazam! Fury of the Gods 2023

A sequel to 2019’s Shazam!, this DC Extended Universe film follows Billy Batson (Zachary Levi) and his foster family—the “Shazamily”—as they battle the powerful Daughters of Atlas (Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, Rachel Zegler) to save the world. Released March 17, 2023, it received mixed critic reviews, with praise for its humor and family themes but criticism for CGI and diminished charm compared to the original .💰 Box Office Performance Budget: ~$110–125 million. Opening Weekend (US): ~$30 million—marked a 44% drop from the first film, topping box office but considered underwhelming. Worldwide Gross: ~$134 million ($57.6 M US + $76.5 M international) — only ~1.1× its budget, leading analysts to label it a box office bomb.In India, it held the #1 weekend in mid-March, grossing around $1.22 million .🧭 Critical & Audience Review Critics rated it lukewarm: Business Insider ranks it among lower-tier DC efforts (critic scores shamelessly lower than fan ratings). Some praised family dynamics and emotional beats (Deadline, Geeks + Gamers), though CGI and spectacle got flak. AP News gave it 2½ stars, noting stronger action but less charm. Guardian called it “zesty” but formulaic .Fans responded more favorably. Reddit praised the balance of comedy and emotion:“Shazam! Fury of the Gods is a highly enjoyable superhero adventure that hits the right emotional beats while providing a few belly‑laughs”.🧩 Highlights to Expect Family-first storytelling remains the heart, diving deeper into the bonds of the Shazamily. Upgraded action sequences, though uneven CGI quality draws criticism. Two post-credit scenes, expanding tease for future DCU developments. Humor & heart, especially through Levi’s performance and supporting cast interactions.🧠 Worth Watching? Yes, for fans of the Shazamily’s warmth and comic relief. Maybe pass if you're after groundbreaking superhero tales or visually riveting spectacles. Don’t expect it to revitalize the DCEU—it serves more as a standalone, sentimental chapter than a franchise cornerstone.📝 Conclusion Shazam! Fury of the Gods is a fun, family-focused superhero sequel that delivers humor, heart, and action—but struggles to match the originality and charm of its predecessor. While it expands on the Shazamily dynamic and introduces new mythological villains, uneven CGI and a familiar formula hold it back. Despite its strong cast and emotional core, the film underperformed at the box office and signaled audience fatigue with the current DCEU. Verdict: Worth watching for fans of lighthearted superhero stories, but not essential viewing for the broader DC Universe.

The movie itself is trying to lean on a family is important kinda storyline but i didn't really felt the chemistry between the children with each other or there "parents". Going in this one i was kinda worried about how they'd handle the humor side of it but they did a fair job, some cringe like jokes but mostly really good and well placed! You could really feel that the older versions of themselves are actually still child minded with the way they are handling situations or specific moments. It's been a while since i've seen a good villain with a powerful motivation and background in a superhero movie and i'm still waiting on one... The sisters weren't that iconic or well written... Shazam! 2 isn't DC top pier or anything special, it's mostly just a fun superhero movie. Now i can say with confidence that 4DX isn't really my thing, i am a fast distracter and all the elements that comes in to play with the moving chair, water sprinkler, wind turbines, etc etc... kept me from focusing fully on the movie itself!
