Swim to Me (Limpia) 2025
The 2025 film Swim to Me is a Chilean drama, also known by its original Spanish title, Limpia, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Dominga Sotomayor. The movie is inspired by the best-selling novel of the same name by Alia Trabucco Zerán. The plot centers on the intense and complex relationship between Estela, a domestic worker who has left her rural life for the city, and Julia, the six-year-old girl from the affluent, emotionally distant family she cares for day and night. As their bond deepens, they create a private, dependent world that ultimately leads to an inevitable and tragic outcome, with the narrative examining themes of class hierarchy, the invisibility of domestic labor, and social tensions in Chilean society, all set against the backdrop of the 2019 "Social Outburst" protests. The film stars María Paz Grandjean as Estela and the young Rosa Puga Vittini as Julia, with Ignacia Baeza, Benjamín Westfall, and Rodrigo Palacios rounding out the main cast. The screenplay was co-written by Sotomayor and Gabriela Larralde, and the film was produced by Juan de Dios Larraín, Pablo Larraín, and Rocío Jadue through Fabula. The film premiered at the San Sebastián International Film Festival and had its global streaming release on Netflix on October 10, 2025.
