Crypto Man 2025
Crypto Man (Korean title: Pokrak or Collapse), released in South Korea on January 15, 2025, is a crime-drama with dark comedy elements directed by Hyun Hae-ri. Inspired by the real-life Terra-LUNA cryptocurrency crash, the plot follows Yang Do-hyun (played by the late Song Jae-rim in his final film role), an ambitious entrepreneur who, after exploiting government youth startup subsidies to purposefully bankrupt companies for profit, launches a cryptocurrency called "MOMMY Coin" with the backing of shadowy investor Kevin. The coin’s value skyrockets, fueled by speculative frenzy, but eventually collapses under regulatory scrutiny, mirroring the real-world financial disaster. The cast features An Woo-yeon as Do-hyun's partner Ji-woo, Min Sung-wook as the investor Kevin, and So Hee-jung. Critical reception was largely mixed to negative; while reviewers praised Song Jae-rim’s energetic and "enthusiastic" performance, many criticized the screenplay as "muddled" and "disjointed," noting it failed to offer a cohesive satire of the crypto scene. Commercially, the film saw limited success, grossing approximately $133,393 at the box office with a sharp decline after its opening week. As of late 2025, the film has concluded its theatrical run and is available via digital VOD services in South Korea (such as IPTV and Naver Series On), though a major global streaming platform release (like Netflix or Disney+) has not been widely publicized.

The lead actor's performance in this film was truly a testament to their immense talent. While the fact that this is their final work brings a sense of deep sadness, I was profoundly moved by their portrayal. Seeing them deliver such a passionate and heartfelt performance, reminiscent of their earlier TV appearances, brought both joy and nostalgia. The film's unique focus on cryptocurrency, combined with the grounded nature of its true-story basis, added a compelling layer of depth, making it an unforgettable viewing experience. The cinematography and pacing further enhanced the emotional weight, leaving a lasting impression.
